Students at Schneckenburger Elementary spent much of the first half of the school year working on a selfless act of kindness.
The school’s K-Kids service club collected hygiene products and made gift bags for patients at the American Cancer Society’s Patrick F. Taylor Hope Lodge. The Hope Lodge is a “home away from home” for those who need warm, caring, no-cost accommodations during their cancer treatment at a New Orleans area medical facility.
Each bag, which was placed in every room, contained enough supplies for a few nights. K-Kids also hosted a dress down day and sold candy to purchase gifts for the children who were in the hospital on Christmas. Schneckenburger Elementary held several meetings to wrap gifts and make bags. The Jefferson Parish Public School will have a food drive in February. School faculty and staff wanted to thank everyone who helped and supported in this cause. The sponsor was Jessica Nelson.
